Bulldozerでの3ヶ月間のインターンシップを終えようとしている今、この経験がどれほど素晴らしいものだったかを言葉で表すのは簡単ではありません。私は日本のことわざを読むのが好きなのですが、Bulldozerでの時間ををもっともよく表しているのは「井の中の蛙大海を知らず」という言葉です。文字通り「井戸の中の蛙は大海を知らない」という意味で、新しい経験に触れないままでいると、世界の見え方が狭くなってしまうという教えです。日本で暮らし、働く中で、私自身の世界観は大きく広がりました。
インターン期間中、私はイベントやワークショップへの参加、会社ブログの執筆、営業メールの送信など、さまざまな業務に取り組みました。小規模な組織の中で、ボトルネックを生まないよう円滑にコミュニケーションを取り、業務を進める方法を学びました。報・連・相を意識して実践することで、「迷惑をかけるかもしれない」という遠慮を乗り越え、生産性に影響する問題があれば躊躇なく相談できるようになりました。また、理想の最終成果をイメージすることで、自分のパフォーマンスを高めるために必要なステップを明確にすることもできました。
日本人の友人から「日本人は細やかな気遣いを大切にしている」と聞いたことがありますが、インターンの間、その言葉を何度も実感しました。上司や同僚からの心のこもった贈り物や優しい言葉、一緒に歩いて行くランチや共にした食事…どれも温かいものでした。小さなチームの一員であることは、本当に幸せなことでした。Bulldozerのメンバーはいつも「あなたの目標達成のために、私たちに何かできることはある？」と声をかけてくれ、私も同じように彼女らをサポートしようと努めました。一人が成功すれば、みんなの成功につながる。そんな雰囲気の中で、互いに励まし合い、称え合う姿を見るのはとても刺激的で、この3ヶ月で全員が成長していく様子を目の当たりにしました。
最終日には、メンバーが3連休明けに持ち寄ったお土産を交換し合い、優しさと感謝の気持ちを改めて感じました。別れの挨拶をしたあと、皆がエレベーターまで見送りに来てくれ、扉が閉まる瞬間まで手を振っていました。その場面を振り返ると、胸が少し熱くなり、小さな蛙が初めて大海を垣間見たような気持ちになります。
Bulldozerのみなさん、本当に意味のある、忘れられない経験をありがとうございました。

As I wrap up my 3-month internship at Bulldozer, I find it difficult to fully express just how wonderful this experience has been. I enjoy reading Japanese proverbs, and the one that best describes my time here is 井の中の蛙大海を知らず (I no naka no kawazu taikai wo shirazu). Literally: A frog in a well does not know the great sea. It reminds us that people who don’t expose themselves to new experiences end up with a limited worldview. My own worldview has expanded exponentially through living and working in Japan.
During my internship, I took on a variety of tasks: attending networking events and workshops, writing for the company blog, and sending sales emails. I learned how to communicate effectively within a small business to prevent bottlenecks and keep processes moving smoothly. By practicing the Hō-Ren-Sō method, I overcame the feeling that I might be inconveniencing others and became more comfortable speaking up when issues affected my productivity. Visualizing my desired final outcome also helped me identify the steps needed to optimize my performance.
One of my Japanese friends once told me that Japanese people are known for their thoughtful consideration: 細やかな気遣い (komayakana kizukai). I truly felt this throughout my internship: from the thoughtful gifts and kind words from my supervisor and colleagues to our walks to lunch and shared meals. Being part of a small team was something I genuinely loved. My colleagues often asked how they could support me in meeting my goals, and I did everything I could to support them in return. If one of us succeeds, we all succeed. Encouragement and praise were given freely, and it was inspiring to watch all of us grow over the past three months.
On my last day, we exchanged omiyage from our holiday weekend, yet another sign of everyone’s kindness and appreciation. After saying my goodbyes, my teammates walked me to the elevator, and we waved to each other until the doors closed. Looking back, I feel a bit emotional, like a small frog who finally caught a glimpse of the ocean.
